As usual, the news is driving me absolutely f**king crazy again. I mourn common sense, and all that passed quietly with it. Let’s examine a few current topics that might benefit from a healthy dose of ‘no shit’ in their diets:
Ebola. Ebola sucks, obviously. I have no first-hand knowledge of it, nor do I wish to. But why haven’t we stopped allowing people from these Ebola ‘hotspots’ to hop their asses on airplanes and fly right into town? Lots of other places have done this. Why haven’t we? What’s the problem? Are we too politically correct? Would that be racist? I don’t get it. But cut that shit out. Seriously.
Also… Why are people still referring to Obama as a Muslim or ‘Muslim Sympathizer’? How stupid are these people, and how stupid are the people that follow them? It’s mind-numbingly unintelligent, and very transparently bigoted. Obama is, at this very moment, bombing the ever-loving shit out of Muslim countries. Stop making us all look like idiots. Please.
And while we’re on it… ISIS. Or ISIL. Whatever. Make up your mind which acronym you are. Why are we still doing this Mid-East dance? Here’s the thing about this… The guys who got us into this (why does no one bring this up?) and ROYALLY screwed it up are pissed at the other guys for not jumping in sooner to try and fix what they screwed up. The guy who said he would get us out of this mess just jumped back into it half-assed and too late. Make up your mind. Are you in, or are you out? I’m a bit of an isolationist. I’d much rather let those fellas fix their own problems while we fix ours. We can’t effectively fight wars with theocracies that want us all to die. We’re having enough trouble trying to fight off a theocracy here at home. If they f**k with us, annihilate them. If they want to f**k with each other, stop trying to fix it… or at least stop trying to fix it in ways we’ve tried that were ineffective. There are no good answers, but there ARE answers that kill less of our soldiers and create less folks who want to kill us.
Ben Affleck vs. Bill Maher… I love the work Ben Affleck has been doing the last few years. He’s a certified badass now. The Town and Argo are two of the greatest movies ever made. And there’s no question that he’s deeply intelligent. Maybe he was too smart for the question. I’m not sure. But he’s just wrong on this one. There IS an issue with the percentage of Muslims that are bad for the planet. Too many of them repeatedly violate human rights. All of them? No. But the research and polling have been done, and it ain’t pretty. Should we lump all Muslims together? No, of course not. But we’d be stupid not to acknowledge that an alarming number of them want non-Muslims dead and think women are far inferior. Maher is right.
For the people that look at things like gay marriage and then say, “I don’t recognize this country anymore,” or, “this just isn’t America anymore,” and similar comments… Just shut up. We’re fine. Why don’t we look like we did 50 years ago? It’s called progress. Embrace it. 50 years ago, minorities and women held little to no value in this country. Now they do. Now their opinions mean something, too. I’ve still got my guns. No one has tried to pry them from my hands. Everyone is still free to worship whatever they want. Nothing has changed there. Unemployment is getting back in line. Profits for businesses both large and small are at all-time highs. Tax rates are in line with or lower than previous Republican administrations. Is something like Obamacare socialist? No. It’s a big bullshit payoff to insurance companies and special interests that somehow manages to get a few more people health insurance. It’s a horrible business model. But is it socialism? No. Something far closer to socialism would be the average citizens of this country footing the bill for bailouts. No one bitches about that, though… And we’ve fixed nothing to keep that whole shitstorm from happening again… the one that sank the entire economy of the world… THAT is socialism. But let’s focus on not getting sick people health insurance. And gay people. Because they’re the real problem.
So, what’s in the news lately? Stupidity. Metric f**k-tons of stupidity. And a perfect balance of political-correctness and in-your-face ignorance. So relax. Everything is perfectly normal.
